About The Team

Eloise King - Director + Producer

Eloise is an award-winning filmmaker who adopts an interdisciplinary approach to telling complex stories that foreground underrepresented perspectives within mainstream and popular culture. Her work explores institutional and cultural turning-points to highlight society’s contradictions and the resulting tensions of ‘progress’.

As a former commissioner and Global Executive Producer at VICE & i-D she led a multi-award-winning international documentary team. Her nuanced voice draws on over 10 years of journalism and documentary insights working across broadcast, commercial and digital media for: BBC, Channel 4, ITV, MTV, A&E, and Al Jazeera English. Her previous titles, as a director and/or producer, include: THE GATHERINGS (Grierson nominated), KIDS BEHIND BARS (ITV), PINS AND NEEDLES (Broadcast Award nominated for Best Popular Factual 2017), and 3 -part series GURLS TALK (LOVIE/WEBBY).

Eloise is a 2020 Field of Vision and Logan non-fiction fellowship grantee and an alumna of The Edinburgh International Television Festival ‘Ones to Watch’ talent program and named as a Sheffield Documentary Festival 'Future Producer' (2017). In 2018 and 2020, Eloise was recognized for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Campaign and Creative Equals’ list of future female leaders defining creativity and her work has been exhibited at The ICA, Tate Britain, V&A, and MoAD.

The Untitled Scholars project is Eloise’s first feature documentary.

Patricia Kingori - Executive Producer

Professor Patricia Kingori is a Sociologist at the University of Oxford. Her research is funded by the Wellcome Trust and she leads a team of researchers working in Africa and Europe exploring contemporary concerns around fakes, fabrications and falsehoods in global health. Patricia was born in Kenya and has conducted research of various features of Kenyan life over the past fifteen years.

Patricia’s examinations of the fakery in knowledge production includes what can be learnt from the processes, people and places involved. Patricia’s work considers fakes and their existence as a useful device to explore many features of contemporary society.

In 2018, Patricia received funding from the Wellcome to research her work on fakes. In 2019, with Eloise King she began work on The Untitled Scholars Project. This film represents a collaborative endeavour and aims to do justice to the rich and complex lives of the contributors involved.

Riel Roch-Decter - Producer Riel Roch-Decter is a Canadian born, Los Angeles based Producer and the Projects Director and co-founder of MEMORY. Riel began his career as the Director of Production for independent feature film production company Olympus Pictures, working on award winning feature films including John Cameron-Mitchell’s RABBIT HOLE and Mike Mills’ Oscar Winning BEGINNERS. During his time at Olympus Riel produced THE WAIT written & directed by M Blash and starring Jena Malone and Chloë Sevigny.

Riel Roch-Decter co-founded MEMORY with partner Sebastian Pardo at the start of 2014 and together have produced and distributed award-winning fiction and non-fiction films, as well as curating and hosting film-related events. These projects have premiered in renowned international festivals such as Venice, Berlinale, IFFRotterdam, Locarno, TIFF, SXSW, True / False, and AFI Fest. MEMORY has collaborated with multi-hyphenate filmmakers and artists to bring their debut films to fruition, such as: Celia Rowlson-Hall (MA), Carson Mell (Another Evil), Dean Fleischer-Camp (FRAUD), Theo Anthony (RAT FILM), Leilah Weinraub (SHAKEDOWN), Zia Anger (My First Film), and Marnie Ellen Hertzler (Crestone). In 2016 MEMORY was named one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film, and in 2017 their film RAT FILM, by Theo Anthony, was nominated for a Gotham Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Riel graduated from Concordia University with a Major in Economics. In addition he has attended programs at the Harvard Business School, NYU SCPS, and the London School of Economics for Management and Entrepreneurship. He has participated in the Cannes Producers Network, the IFFRotterdam Lab, the Sundance Creative Producing Lab and was recently awarded the 2020 Cinereach Producing Award.
