Field of Vision is partnering with Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), an organization at the forefront of advancing digital security best practices in journalism, to host a free digital security clinic for documentary filmmaking professionals, featuring group trainings and individual consultations.

The clinic will launch in tandem with the release of the Digital Security Guide for Filmmakers, a living, interactive resource catered specifically to the digital security needs of filmmakers.

The first round of the Digital Security Clinic will last six weeks, from Sep 29 to Nov 6.

Filmmakers can participate in the Clinic in two ways:

Group Training Sessions: We've scheduled two 90-minute training sessions, which will be led by expert trainers at FPF and cover essential digital security topics. These sessions are open to all interested, and the filmmaker-specific curricula will include introductory and advanced strategies alike. Sign-up in the intake form below.

  • Footage + Communication Security, Sep 29, 1:30-3pm ET
  • Device Hardening + Travel/Field Security, Oct 20, 1:30-3pm ET

Consultation Sessions: Trainers at FPF have allotted a series of 30min consultation session times where a film professional and/or their teammates can privately discuss project- and risk-specific solutions to some of their most pressing digital security challenges, such as overhauling a team's communication plan for an upcoming shoot, or assessing the security of a favorite transcription service.

  • Consultation Sessions are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sign-ups are in the intake form below (with a waitlist option included).
