Synopsis:

The soil in Portland, Oregon is rich with a hidden history — what has grown here is rooted in racism, erasure, and neglect. Yet, a small group of Black farmers is thriving and reconnecting with ancestral knowledge and legacy. And through that soil, reclaiming space and nourishing each other.

Filmmakers:
Faith E. Briggs

Faith E. Briggs is a creative producer and director passionate about sharing contemporary stories that widen the spectrum of representation. Her work focuses on the outdoors, access, and community connections. She believes that amplifying more diverse stories increases our sense of possibility. She is a graduate of Yale University where she double-majored in African-American studies and film studies, focusing on Black women’s representation in media. Her favorite feelings are a tie between sun on skin and warm mud oozing between bare toes. She is grateful for the life changing knowledge of literary grandmothers such as Audre Lorde, bell hooks, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, & Toni Cade Bambara.

Tracy Nguyen-Chung

Tracy Nguyen-Chung is a documentary filmmaker, impact producer, as well as founder of the PR and communications agency, After Bruce. Working with renowned director Jehane Noujaim, she co-produced The Great Hack, and produced the short documentaries Supply Chain Reaction and Ballad of the Global Patriot. Her directorial debut, Connection, world premiered at Big Sky Film Festival shown at dozens of festivals across the globe. At After Bruce, she led PR and impact campaigns for films like The Square, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, The Farewell, and The Great Hack. Tracy is the founder of Brown Folks Fish and was recognized as one of Outside Magazine’s 2019 Outsiders of the Year.

Ryan Miyamoto

Ryan Miyamoto is an accomplished cinematographer, director and producer based in Los Angeles, California. He was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and found a passion for film through surf cinematography. He graduated from San Diego State University in 2010 with a degree in Television, Film and New Media. Ryan’s work can be seen on National Geographic, Discovery Channel, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox Sports, ESPN, Disney, and more. His directorial debut Twinsters, premiered at SXSW 2015 and received the “Special Jury Recognition for Editing.” Most recently, Ryan received multiple cinematography awards for his work on Waikiki, directed by Chris Kahunahana.
